Team Building - Flotilla Charters

For sheer fun on the water few things compare with the thrill of participating in a sailing regatta! The regattas that we organize provide a “hands-onsailing experiencefor those sailors and “wannabees” who would like to learn something about sailing and the sea, while simply enjoying an outing on our beautiful West Coast - an outing that is wind driven, quiet and at peace with the world

definition of two boats sailing - a race!
Our programs can also be focused on the sailors in your crowd who appreciate the performance, comfort and fellowship, which only a sailboat in the 25 to 45 feet range can provide.

The sailing we offer should appeal to managers and their employees who wish to improve their relationships and skills with one another. Sailingtakes you away from urban distractions and most everything you do aboard a boat requires cooperation, organization, and leadership -which is what relationships and the elusive team building challenge is all about.

Typically, each vessel will have a sailing instructor in charge and will preferably carry no more than 4 to 6 persons each, allowing maximum opportunity to sail and to interact. No boating experience is required, only a desire to participate in the sailing of the boats. CYA "Introductory" sailing proficiency certificates can be presented upon completion.

For Small Groups: Our principal vessel, a Beneteau “Oceanus”, 351 is well suited for team building. Her large salon, with seating area for 8 persons, can be used for group discussions and presentations. Her equally large cockpit and unobstructed deck area provides even more space for instruction and related activities.

For Larger Groups of 7 to 50: we can arrange additional sail boats of similar size and features. Sailing in the company of two or more boats introduces an air of competition and rivalry, especially when the water canons are hauled out!

Both half day and full day tours are offered, withprices averaging  $100. per person for a three to four hour sail. We are flexible in allowing you to choose the kind of vessels which you like, how long you would like to go for,  how much you
want to spend, and whether you prefer departing from Victoria’s Inner Harbour or Oak Bay, the gateway to the southern Gulf Islands.

Sample Itineraries

1. Fort Rodd Hill – 3 to 4 hours (or longer if desired)

a)Snacks Option:  Rendezvous at Victoria Inner Harbour (the Coast Harbourside Inn) at 1 pm. After a short introduction to the boats and skippers, and instruction on basic boat safety, we depart the harbour. We will participate in a fun race along the Straits of Juan de Fuca, our destination being Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site. We arrive here at about 2:30, and if we desire, we can anchor and go ashore to visit this fort and Fisgard Lighthouse adjacent. Alternatively, we can enjoy our snacks aboard and explore Esquimalt Harbour. This harbour is a good place for persons to switch boats if they desire.  We have another fun sail before returning to Victoria Harbour by 4 or 5 pm.  There will be a lot of photo -ops as the boats will often be sailing at close quarters.

b) Lunch (or supper) Option:  If we want to fit a lunch into this outing then we could start at 11 am and finish at 2 or 3 pm. We could eat lunch on the boats or go ashore by inflatable and picnic on the scenic beach next to Fort Rodd Hill, and the Lighthouse.  Prices for the food catered by the Coast Harbourside Hotel will range from $10. to $20. per person. The supper option could have the vessels starting at 4 and returning by 7:30. Expect a cost of around $15-$25. for this meal. Enquire about entertainment options.

2. Discovery-GulfIslands – 3 to 4  hours (or longer if desired)

We meet at Oak bay Marina (15 minutes ride from down town Victoria). After introductions to the skippers and boats we head out into Oak Bay, and skirt the Chain Island Ecological reserve. Depending on winds we have a choice of sailing into the Straits of Juan de Fuca or around the Discovery-Chatham Islands out into the more protected waters of Haro Strait.

There is an opportunity to visit these islands – the most southerly of the Gulf Island chain. Snow-capped Mount Baker and the San Juan Islands provide an inspiring backdrop. Much whale watching takes place in these waters during the summertime, so bring your camera just in case we run into a pod of “blackfish”! The price of this outing can be held to $100. Including snacks and refreshments.  Lunches or meals would again, be in addition to these prices and can also be arranged as above (with the Oak Bay Marina Restaurant catering).
