If you have ever wondered what this fascination for sailing is all about, and have dreamed of sailing Canada's Gulf islands around Victoria, here is your chance! Our vessel is a Beneteau 351 (pictured above) moored in Oak Bay (10 minutes drive from downtown Victoria) which we would love to share with fellow adventurers. You can choose from half day (3-4 hour) and whole day (7-8 hour) sails in and around these protected waters, to overnight sail excursions to the Gulf and San Juan Islands and waters north as far as Desolation Sound. Ours is a “hands-on" experience with boaters participating fully as crew in the handling of the boat. Y Being moored in Oak Bay, you have the advantage of being close to a number of uninhabited Gulf Islands and marine ecological reserves. These harbour a wide diversity of wildlife. the Oak Bay area is also popular with boaters because of the many sheltered anchorages and protection offered from rough seas. Because of the absence of ocean swells, sea sickness is an unusual occurance here and in the Gulf Islands adjacent. If you have a half day to spend, we might be able to sail around the Discovery and Chatham Islands. These are amongst the loveliest in the Gulf Islands - solitary, wild and natural, set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains, Mount Baker being the most conspicuous. If you have a day to spend, we have a choice of several tranquil coves. we can then go ashore in our inflatable to picnic. And if you wish to hike a wild and beautiful island - you won't find any better than Discovery Island Marine Park! .
Day Sailing in Ibis, our Beneteau 351 sloop.Ibis is a most comfortable boat to sail. Its large cockpit accommodates 6 people quite easily. Features such as a self furling jib and a furling main sail (furls into the mast), with all sheets leading back to the cockpit make for conveniant and safe sailing. Navigation equipment includes radar, GPS, auto pilot, depth sounder, and DSC/VHF radio. Creature comforts include a large dodger to protect you from the wind and spray, and a cockpit table with a cooler incorporated into its base. Note the overhanging seats.
