Multi-Day Sailing
|
Do you want to familiarize yourself with sailing, develop some sailing skills, or find out the kind of boat you should buy, or just want to find out if sailing is for you? Then join us for a "hands on" cruise of the Gulf Islands or areas north. We start from our base in Oak Bay (next to Victoria). The pace will be leisurely, and the scenery magnificent. You can join others or charter the vessel for your own group (6 persons max.)

Our emphasis will be enjoying our vessel and exploring these coastal waters. You will be given "Introductory" sail training as prescribed by the Canadian Yachting Association, and as much "hands-on" experience sailing the boat as you desire. No boating experience is required.
I
bring along a variety of books on marine life, and natural history. My knowledge of this area has been gained by 15 years of experience cruising the BC coast. If you have musical instruments and/or singing voices, bring them along as well. We plan to have a good time.

Good food, good preparation and time to enjoy meals is stressed. Our Beneteau has a fully equipped galley and features a large salon and cockpit suited for both eating and entertaining. Let me know if you have special dietery needs.
An inflatable is
towed along on our day and overnight trips. This enables us to go ashore and explore islands.
We can also provide you with fishing and crabbing gear. If you would like to try your hand at kayaking, we can take along our Klepper two person kayak.

For a complete description of our vessel and her features, see Our Boat.

Cruising Areas: The Gulf and San Juan Islands are convenient destinations from our base in Victoria. With more time, you can choose to explore the islands and coastlines north of Victoria and Nanaimo, going as far as Desolation Sound for example.

But don't be fooled by the distances. Most people forget that a cruise from Victoria to Nanaimo for example might take at least 4 to 5 days, and a cruise to Desolation Sound (half way up Vancouver Island) would take twice as long from Victoria - And that does not take into account returning! For a leisurely cruise with stopovers for some exploring count on sailing no more than 25 nautical miles per day. Tidal currents on our West Coast play an important factor in determining how far one can sail and when.
